Special properties
Loden is a material that has stood the test of time for centuries and was the traditional, hard-wearing clothing fabric used by Europe’s rural population. Loden is made from pure wool, which is woven and then milled.
This strengthens the fabric and felts the surface, giving it its unique characteristics.
As a 100% natural product, Loden has many special properties.
Loden is …
… Breathable & moisture-regulating
Pure new wool is extremely breathable, i.e. it absorbs water vapor from the body and releases it to the surface of the fabric.
It can absorb up to 30% of its own weight in water without feeling wet.
This property of loden is particularly important for outerwear used for sports, such as skiing or hiking.

… antibacterial

Wool has an antibacterial effect due to its protein base.
The keratin it contains kills bacteria.
… windproof
Because the loden is processed without chemical additives, it retains its wind-breaking properties.
Loden retains its windproof properties up to wind force 10.

… temperature-regulating

Due to the fabric structure of loden, a regular and controlled heat balance takes place, creating a microclimate zone on the body.
Loden does not let the cold through, retains body heat and thus guarantees exceptional comfort.
… water-repellent
Based on its molecular structure, wool is inherently water-repellent.
This effect is enhanced by the elaborate processing of the loden, the fulling process.
It not only becomes more resistant and warmer, but also extremely water-repellent.

… warming

Loden is naturally warming because wool fibers have a hollow structure.
It absorbs body heat when it is cold and stores it there.
This effect is achieved by processing the wool into loden through a combination of a dense surface and hollow spaces.
… naturally flame-retardant
Thanks to the use of wool, loden is a product that is naturally flame retardant.
Wool is a protein fiber and therefore has a flame-retardant effect.

… robust
Loden was originally work and protective clothing in the Alpine region.
Robust and weatherproof clothing was needed here.
Loden gets its durability from its processing, especially fulling.

… sustainable

Wool is a natural and renewable raw material and is obtained once or twice a year by shearing.
This is done by hand, just as it was 100 years ago.
The production of wool consumes significantly less energy than the production of cotton or synthetic materials and does not involve the use of pesticides or crude oil.
Wool and wool products can be easily disposed of after use – by composting them, for example.
All this makes Loden a highly sustainable product.
Loden is also very easy to care for!
Loden is easy to clean, but should be hand washed in lukewarm water and then left to air dry. However, this is usually not necessary as loden has the following advantages:… Dirt-resistant
Due to the fabric structure and the wool lanolin, new wool is absolutely dirt-resistant. Tip: Stubborn dirt can be easily removed from loden when dry using a fine natural hair brush.
For additional cleaning, the material can be moistened with a little vinegar water and then brushed out.
Stains can be removed with a damp cloth and a little curd soap.
Liquids do not penetrate the fabric and remain on the loden as drops. Tip: If the loden is soiled by liquids, these must be soaked up immediately with an absorbent cloth, e.g. paper handkerchief, or rinsed off with clear water.
Do not rub the loden with a cloth, only dab it. … self-cleaning against odors Wool has a molecular structure that helps it to clean itself.
This effect is therefore also retained in loden. Tip: Simply hang the loden in the fresh air and the textile will have cleaned itself of all odors after a short time.
