Spinning mill
Part of the traditional company Gebrüder Mehler GmbH

Spinnerei Forst GmbH was founded and rebuilt in 1994.
After the company had to file for insolvency, it was finally acquired by Tuchfabrik Gebrüder Mehler GmbH in 2005.
Since then, Spinnerei Forst has been a wholly owned subsidiary of Tuchfabrik Mehler, which is based in Tirschenreuth, Upper Palatinate, Bavaria.
The company was founded in 1644 and is currently run by the 11th generation of the family.
Loden fabrics, uniform fabrics, official fabrics, eco-textiles and interior fabrics are produced at the headquarters in Tirschenreuth.

The takeover of the Forst spinning mill by the Mehler family was accompanied by an overhaul of the entire machinery, so that yarns and twisted yarns of the highest quality continue to be produced.
The company’s great success and growth are also due to the 42 employees who now work at the site in the Lusatian region.

Weaving mill
one of the oldest techniques in the art of weaving

In weaving, a textile surface is produced by crossing longitudinal and transverse threads.
A visual check is carried out after weaving and before further processing in the finishing department.
Dye works
the coloration of textile fibers
The fabrics are dyed individually and entirely according to our customers’ ideas.
Production quantities from 25m are possible.
Dyeing has a millennia-old tradition and has developed its own occupational profile with numerous specializations.
Today it is part of the chemical industry.

Finishing
gives materials their uniqueness in appearance and texture

Walking
During the fulling process, the carded yarn fabric is matted with water, heat and movement.
The fabric is kneaded (milled) until a surface felt is formed.
This gives the loden a pleasant feel with good strength and positive usage properties.
The rough
Roughening the felt blanket to create a soft, voluminous surface (velour) and to lay the roughened fibers in a line direction (loden).
The fibers, which lie on top of each other like roof tiles, allow raindrops to roll off, reinforced by an impregnation.
The finishing process
Various finishes can be applied to give the fabrics their optimum properties for the desired purpose:
- Water-repellent finish
- Oil-repellent finish
- Flame-retardant finish
- Mothproof equipment
- Gripping equipment
- Antistatic finish
- Washable equipment
Decatizing
The fabrics undergo a steam treatment to fix the fabric appearance and make it shrink-free.
In addition, the fabrics are given a refined finish, which is visible in the subtle sheen and surface smoothness.
